Winemaker's Tasting Notes

Gralyn Estate is regarded as one of the region's finest Shiraz producers, dating back to the first Shiraz, vintaged in 1979. This release from 35 year old unirrigated vines is deep purple-crimson in colour, perfumed with spice, blackberry, plum and cedary oak. The palate is supple, well balanced and layered with ripe black fruits, cedar and spice. A core of sweet berry fruit and finely structured tannins support a long, persistent finish. Drinking beautifully now, but will continue to develop with further bottle age.

Comments

Oh boy, is this one tight as a drum. A remarkably elegant shiraz drawn from old vines in the Wilyabrup region. Aromas of spices and dark fruits with a savoury influence. The palate is more medium weight yet there is full-bodied power and fruit intensity in there. With ageing those beautiful shiraz characters will reveal themselves. 94/100
